Well, that's a red flag for "there are 1 or 2 panels about GL somewhere in there but in the end you gotta go with the normal BxG ending for romance story".

This is not even a GL
For anyone wondering, this IS a GL story, but the romance isn't the main focus. The story places much more emphasis on its other genres.
For some clarification (and minor spoilers), Hannah's love interest is the pink-haired girl on the cover, and they do end up together in the end (although you don't get to see one last scene of them together, it is left for you to know that they get to have their happily ever after despite everything that's happened to both of them). However, the story also features an unusual love triangle involving Hannah, Eilee, and Eilee's older brother, Ian. Don't worry, though! Ian isn't genuinely romantically interested in Hannah, he's only using her for his own personal gain at the end of the day.
But if that's not your thing, feel free to skip this story or the chapters that focus on it. Just keep in mind that you may miss some important context if you do. For me, this story was decent overall, though it fell short in several areas, especially when it came to some of its more important plot points. It was still an enjoyable story to follow for the most part, though. I certainly fell in love with its characters, despite everything.

I'm a bit far too late, but that isn't true. It's not here yet, but spoilers! Hannah and Eilee are the endgame pair of this story, they end up together in the epilogue after everything that has happened on the island (although you don't get to see one last scene of them together at the end, it is left for you to know that they get to have their happily ever after despite everything that's happened to both of them). Ian was never genuinely in love with Hannah at all, he was simply using her for his own personal gain and a heavily questionable idea of his own family.

It IS a GL. However, the GL isn't the main focus, and it's more of a subgenre than anything. The story places much more emphasis on its other genres than that. Some good things to note: it does eventually become better presented in later chapters.

Good question! My answer is that I'm delusional and would rather think of it that way than otherwise (it's an unhealthy coping mechanism, I'm aware of it).
But seriously, the ending is pretty open to interpretation, so you can take it however you want. A lot of people were understandably upset because the two never got one final scene together—no epilogue of them being domestic and living together in a house far away from the island, no kiss, nothing like that. Still, the ending at least confirms that they aren't doomed to a tragic fate and that they do reunite after everything they've been through (I do believe that the author planned for it to be a good ending, but they didn't know how to go about it, so they just settled with that instead).
As for what the author was going for... I honestly don't know. I ended up loving the story, but I also have to admit the plot wasn't the strongest. It had a really good premise, but I think the execution was a bit messy, and some writing choices were questionable. For example, Eilie being a child who uses witchcraft to instantly become a young adult felt unnecessary. She could've simply been written as a young adult who naturally looked younger, rather than making her literal age part of the story. As much as I loved the story, that aspect of the story along with a few others made me incredibly uncomfortable, but I also believe some of those things (excluding Eilie being a child who grew up fast thanks to witchcraft) also made it quite enjoyable to read. This entire story was basically "art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable" for me, you could say
But anyways, Hannah never ended up with Ian. Any scenes you saw that gave that weren't her being in love with him, but rather her being flustered and such. Especially THAT one scene where Hannah has a suggestive dream of Ian and Eilie because of that other character (I forgot her name but she's the dark haired woman with sharp eyes and the one with two servants who ended up being the snake and bird [?} or that other animal), it was done by that woman to tease Hannah considering she had two good looking siblings pursuing her romantically.
