The fact the salamander could be separated so easily is kind of disappointing. I guess a lot of how he views himself is because of his religion but if exorcists could separate demons from people, wouldn't that be something he should have already known about considering he knew the term for them? The way he thought of himself seemed to imply that the condition was irreversible, and it seems like this is a quick way to wipe away the trauma around his views of himself as a monster.

Don't forget that it was implied that if arsenyo ever run out of magic he'd lose it and go on a rampage as a monster (back when he first meet llyod and was eating). The shaman was doing the right thing as the local shaman, he'd have to get rid of the ticking time bomb inside of him.
