How the hell pancakes/hotcakes is a feminine food? It's a pancake. Batter that is cooked on a flat pan with butter on it to make sure it doesn't stick. On a plate with maple syrup and butter with berries optionally....there's nothing manly nor feminine about the hardy pancake 😤 it transcends on racial, ethnic, gender, and ideological boundaries. The pancake is the unifier of mankind. PRAISE BE THE HOLY PANCAKE.

@Mnuchinboo In Japan, hotcakes and pancakes are actually different things; pancakes are fairly heavy and meant for a meal, while hotcakes are light, fluffy, and are a snack. They're also often fairly heavy on the sugar and Japan tends to view really sweet, sugary things as being feminine (hence the trope in manga/anime about girls getting crepes, ice cream, cakes, etc after school).

@Mnuchinboo Hotcakes in Japanese are really sweet, full of cream, butter and fruits, so men generally don't like them. Most sweet things are considered feminine for that same reason. Unless you have a sweet tooth, you can't really eat a lot of those things.
It is a norm that men like meat while women like sweets.

Now I am hopping we get Tooru acting the role of her dad and her aunt the role of her mom. That would be so sweet to see.
Also who is with me aboard the Tooru/Aunt ship?

It's interesting how food is viewed differently in various countries.
For instance, in Japan, pancakes are viewed as a sweet desert-like food that is associated with girls.
In the west, it's just viewed as a versatile breakfast food that is filling and hardy. To the point where it was often associated with hungry lumberjacks and the like. And while some do put whip cream and fruits on theirs, most don't and simply use butter or syrup.
Meanwhile, cereal in Japan is super-un-fucking-popular (most Japanese supermarkets rarely carry it and when they do they just have a few small boxes - and I mean like barely bigger than those hotel single-serving boxes - and only usually, again, cornflakes; compared to almost a whole aisle of cereal in any U.S. supermarket). Except for cornflakes/frosted flakes. Which are often used to decorate/top-off ice cream. Which, admittedly, sounds pretty good.

I've also always found it weird how green peppers are almost universally hated by kids in Japan yet they don't seem to mind broccoli or cauliflower. I'm in my 30s and I still don't fucking like broccoli, but even as a kid I never had an issue with green peppers. Stuffed bell peppers are delicious, they go great on kebab skewers, they're good in a salad or sometimes on pizza, ect.

Waffles are so much easier to cook, normally (I don't think I've ever burned a waffle with a waffle maker, can't say the same about not letting a pancake get burnt). But when you start doing specialty pancakes like blueberry, chocolate chip, ect. waffles are a pain in the ass to deal with. I also must admit I like how pancakes are more fluffy and airy, too.

@definitionofinsanity Depends on how it's made, and the batter tbh (ime), I've had waffles that could compare to pancakes in terms of how light and fluffy they are.
But I've never personally made any specialty pancake nor waffle I can't much say on how easy or difficult they are to make for me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Character development is going to fast that it can't even be seen. We need to see more of kirishima's personality before we get to any of the heartwarming stuff

Also I ship Kirishima/Kanami. Caretaker and Aunt best couple

Now I can only imagine him getting married to the aunt and become the uncle, that way they become a true family!
