Word-for-word translations are often a bad idea, and certainly in going from Japanese terms expressing relationships to English terms expressing familial relationships.

These sentences are in English: A brother-in-law or sister-n-law is the spouse of a sibling. A step-brother or step-sister is not a biologic sibling, but is the child of someone who has married one's parent. A step-sibling would only be a sibling-in-law of he or she married another of one's siblings. A half-sister or half-brother shares exactly one of one's biologic parents. A half-sibling might become a sibling-in-law without biologic incest if that half-sibling married one's step-sibling, but things would definitely be getting weird.

Go thou, and sin no more.
