¥1000 = 13.65 AUD, 12.13 CAD, 7.07 GBP, 14.23 NZD, 9.11 USD
And so on with the other conversions. It's not bad really. The current Japanese minimum wage is ¥901/hr apparently.

No, its actually kind of low imo. Even if you dont count tokyo or any big city. The average wage nowadays is 1050¥ (25% up from 10pm )for low skill work like yamato( delivery service, just pure picking and sorting items), convenient stores clerk or restaurant server, which requires no skill at all and basic understanding of japanese ( thats why a lots of foreigner students are hired here, cheap stuff ). Recycle shop requires a lot more skill than those above jobs. In recycle shop at Saitama, the average salary for 1 shift part time is 1600¥ per hour. 🤑

I have a master's degree and get less than 6 USD/h over here.
Min. wage over here is around 1.2 USD/h as well.
And It's considered faring quite well.

Value is so relative, hope this virus at least changes something, but it probably won't.
