I remember reading this way back, when I found the first 3 volumes on a shelf at a used bookstore. I was really disappointed to find out that the company translating it went out of business, but I'm glad to find it here on this site. Looking forward to rereading it again, and then finally finding out what the hell happens after volume 7! It's only been 10 years!

The series that did Isekai before that genre became a cliche. Glad to see someone still working on the original manga series. I didn't realize that Yuu-sensei returned to the series two additional times, first with "Those Who Hunt Elves Returns" and then with "Those Who Hunt Elves 2", which only recently ended. Considering there were 21 volumes in the original manga series, 1 volume in "Returns," and 10 volumes in TWHE2, that's a lot of work for a scanlating team.

There were a bunch of isekai decades ago, but back then the theme was about doing some quest in the other world and going back to Earth.
But these days the general consensus is that people want to escape their lives, so isekai now is about going somewhere for a better life

I posit that modern isekai is written by all of us who read all the old isekai manga growing up and, when the good old Hero's Journey got to the 'coming home' phase in them, quite reasonably went "Wait, why would you want to come home? The magic place is way cooler. Immigrate, yo." (Possibly not so applicable for this particular series, but)

Back in the day it felt like there was a sense that... I don't know. That if you let characters have a happier ending than you could hope for in the real world, it would either be upsetting, or somehow lead to laziness or immorality or something. Characters were only allowed really cool things while the story was happening, it all had to be put back neatly into a box in the end because playtime was over... Which is really kind of fucking weird and ritualistic when you get down to it, actually.
