I hope the newborn grows up to be a good person, and I hope the former prince/king remarries to a bakery owner or something.
He only mentioned bribery and threats when it came to those who worked for her family. When it came time to investigate the constant bullying that was seemingly happening at the academy, he didn’t mention needing to bribe anyone when it came to investigating the academy. It seemed more like there were rumors that everyone was spreading about her bullying her sister and people believed them but nobody had seen it themselves. He had to bribe people to tell the truth while multiple cities worth of people were on the line, there was a 100% method to tell if they were lying to the face of royalty, and he still had 99% of them keep their mouths shut. None of those people would have said a damn thing without circumstances forcing them to.
It’s definitely surprising they killed her. That’s a massive weakness for the kingdom now that practically makes them a vassal state and even as an evil saint it still implies that a major god had her back enough to grant her purification magic strong enough to be a saint. That country is screwed six ways to Sunday as one of the possible consequences of enacting justice is that they just pissed off a god.
A weakness of most villainess stories is that they rarely portray a villainess. They just have a heroine who is baselessly accused of being cruel.Man, when did the Tragic Heroine turned into villainess. Then again, most of the chapters here are as such.![]()
He had witnesses the first time around. Everyone in her household testified that she hurt the prince's fiancee. When it came to the holy trial, however, they couldn't lie anymore. Not only would lies be immediately revealed, but the fate of their country depended on the truth. So they were forced to admit to the abuse.Yeah but he clearly did no research into those accusations against his wife since nobody actually saw her doing the crimes. He could’ve figured it out on his own if he tried but he didn’t care about his fiancé enough to do that.
It's weird that the sister would not go ahead and purify it herself when she saw how things were going. Supposedly she was not doing it due to her health, but it's far worse for your health to lose your head. Unless her having holy powers was also a lie, but it's hard to believe they were able to fool the church too into declaring her a saintess. That’s actually kinda surprising since she was the only one in that country with purification magic. But I guess it’d be an international incident if they let her live given her crimes
It's also pretty weird to send the guy who condemned her to ask for her help. Could they not have sent anyone else? It's not like they had some kind of relationship before he exiled her either.he wasn't king after he married the step sister, they even say by the end the former crown princess and her family were punished and that Kaizen renounce his claim to the throne, meaning he wasn't king yet, also it would be weird to sent a king as an envoy.

I was definitely very scared that when she talked about accepting the other King's proposal that somehow he thought of the scheme. Thankfully, no, she's just talking about the actual marriage proposal and the plan to aid his kingdom. It was aggravating to see so many of these chapters have a MC who did not do anything at all.Ey this one wasn't too bad. The MC actually dealt with the issue with her own power instead of Just Some Guy swooping in and solving everything
Indeed. He even stepped out of the succession line to take care of his kid, and probably to prevent the child from getting intermingled in court politics in the future too. Now that's some dedication. This was most definitely the best story in the volume. The Prince is at least worth of praise for pushing forward with the contract and not trying to cover anything up. He seems like a guy with some morals. He just was blind to the faults of the one he loved.
are you talking about the other chapter of this volume or this anthology in general??, because most of the volumes are villainess focused with the points you're saying.I was definitely very scared that when she talked about accepting the other King's proposal that somehow he thought of the scheme. The whole appeal of a villainess, to me, is that they'll do something unlike a typical otome protag who does rely on her suitors. But these stories leaned too hard on otome power dynamics which was disappointing. This one, this one was very good. The comparisons to a fairy tale was apt, she was the main driving force and the punishment was satisfying.
It's no wonder they kept this for the end.
They couldn't not kill her. She actively harmed a genuine Saintess who in the end saved probably most of the population of their kingdom. Even if you ignore the secular crimes that veer dangerously close to outright high treason, ignoring that type of religious crime or "crime" would mean that the royal family would spend the rest of their days fearing a religious rebellion or if the Church is particularly organised and international, a crusade. It’s definitely surprising they killed her. That’s a massive weakness for the kingdom now that practically makes them a vassal state and even as an evil saint it still implies that a major god had her back enough to grant her purification magic strong enough to be a saint. It's not a huge weakness, easily explained away by her stepsister being recognized as the country's saintess who could prevent the ritual's use since using the ritual would be doubting her credibility. Especially with the stepsister being the majority of the accusations. The weakness in this story is that with a perfect lie detector, all they really had to do is submit any initial testimony to the same scrutiny.
For any crime whose punishment is above a certain threshold, allow the accused to defend themselves before God, with a massive increase in penalty if they are found lying.
"I am innocent of the charges leveled against me"
"TRUE"
Boom. Problem solved.
