Assuming it exists, how much force would actually be needed for those kind of single molecular threads to cut through stuffs?

Fictions made it so easy like just a leaf falling on it would split in half under its own weight. But it would still need energy to separate the molecular bond isn't it? So there would be some kind of resistance.

It's one of those old scifi things, like quantum entanglement for faster than light communication. If some fiber could be used to cut concrete so smoothly, easily, and nicely, you would see that being used at every construction yard. Unfortunately, or fortunately, it just doesn't make any sense. The molecules of concrete like to stick together tightly (which is precisely why cement/concrete is used in construction), and the only way to separate them is to inject enough energy to do it. Anyone who has needed to install a screw in a concrete wall knows how much energy we are talking about.

Honestly if they changed it up a bit, and added heat to the thread, it would probably function kind of like what they say. At that point it would be like using the world’s sharpest power saw.

The idea of those strings seems to be it's so small, it can slip through the gap between molecule. So my confusion is two.
1. Wouldn't it still have to exert force against the molecular bond, in which it can't just cut through like cutting air.
2. Unlike more "brute" method that will leave both sides of the cut too far apart (for molecular scale at least), it could have just ghost through object as the material bond together again as soon as the string passes through.

What why is mikoto such a weakling out of nowhere? Why didnt she just fucking zap the dudes immediately and been done with it? She barely did anything

I definitely agree with that first point, but a person can probably provide that much force
The bigger issue imho is welding like you said, and the strength of the wire, if you’re pulling on it hard enough to break molecular bonds, that’s probably hard enough to break the wire, and how would you even “hold” onto something like that

mikoto has always been cautious in unkown situations (exept for a certain spiky haired boy i guess), so shes probably trying to gauge her options before zapping them into oblivion.

This takes place two years before the main story, so this Mikoto plays it safe. I don't think she has complete mastery of her ability yet compared to what we're familiar with. She still has a lot to grow.

Might have agreed if this was the first incident we are shown in this long ass flashback but we have already seen her beat plenty of ass in this time period
These people just shot real ass guns at them and she just decides to do nothing there is no room for "gauging her options" just blast them in the fucking face
Like she had no qualms about zapping the first guy and then she just stopped doing anything?

I mean obviously this just happens so ruri can show off her power that was finally revealed after whatever many years but it just makes very little sense in lore

I think its mostly a "I'm in no real danger at the moment, so no need to go all out and risk killing people"
She held back her railgun until the very last moment were it became clear her friend would die if she did not fire it, but also acknowledged that she could have hit people outside with it.
