What I love about this series is how each character is the protagonist of their side, and things that one character does affect the other protagonists in their own series in some manner, directly or not. Touma fighting against the protection system that was implanted on Index destroyed the Tree Diagram satellite, which affected Mikoto's journey to destroy it in order to stop the Level 6 Shift Project, which resulted in the Sisters being released and Misaka 10032 taking part in the Daihaseisai in Mikoto's place, which would in turn lead to the creation of the Shadow Metal that is the whole point of this spin-off.,

Cause and consequence is something a lot of writers seem to not comprehend nowadays, with the amount of stories about the world revolving around the protagonist and no change every happening unless the dense harem protag-kun is there to solve it in an instant.

What I love about this series is how each character is the protagonist of their side, and things that one character does affect the other protagonists in their own series in some manner, directly or not. I don't mind Kamijou showing up in the spinoffs, but it should be limited. Kamijou by his very nature hijacks other character's stories and struggles. It makes sense for him to have cameos in Shokuhou's story as a flashback since she basically sees him him as a personal savior. However Kamijou showing up directly in this story would interfere with her operating as her own character, since she'd literally drop everything if she had an opportunity to even spend time with him, and he'd instantly become the driving force of the story.

On a seperate note

One thing that's interesting and somewhat unique about Shokuhou is that despite being a science side character raised in Academy city, she has a highly unscientific way of thinking about things. She often thinks in internal monologues about fate and karma as well as having a tendency toward superstitious behavior. Most science-side characters will immediately backtrack when they do anything like that and say that "that isn't a very scientific way of thinking". Shokuhou sincerely believes beyond any logic and reason that a shitty whistle Kamijou gave her as an afterthought will summon him.
It's interesting that Shokuhou even opens up the possibility of something other than science being at play here. Most science side characters are so brainwashed to reject anything remotely superstitious, let alone humor the idea that magic exists in any form. Even when a clearly magical thing is happening in front of their eyes, they refuse to see reality and immdiately assume there is a scientific explanation. Misaka's been exposed to magic like a dozen times yet she still doesn't accept the existence of magic to the point its almost comical.

Isn't that because due to Personal Realities of the students?

Misaki's pretty scientific when she was younger but probs to meeting Touma, the nature of her PR probably have been molded to become more welcoming of unexplainable ideas.

Even Accelerator has been like this. Though in his case, he truly took a good dive in the other side

I'm not sure that's how personal realities work, but maybe I'm rusty since it's a concept that is kinda vague on how much it entails for the esper's psychology, not to mention it's 100% a confusing Thelemic magical concept obfuscated by scientific-sounding jargon like everything involving how espers work.
Accelerator's a bit of a unique case, and the way he goes about magic is quite utilitarian and observational, instead of the overly emotionally driven way Shokuhou does. He sees it as a quantifiable force in the universe and a tool for him to use to meet his ends instead of anything higher, spiritual, or worthy of reverence. Kihara Kagun and Kihara Noukan are like him in this respect, though the marriage of the Kiharas and Academy city is one of convenience and neither are espers. Him being the #1 really gives him a sense of ideological and conceptual transcendence most espers don't have, and in practice most espers are just a biproduct of what he is becoming. Himegami's another special case, due to her being a Gemstone whose powers clearly overlap with magic. She accepts both magic and science rather casually as a result. And then there's the fact that science and magic are actually both the same thing that Aliester arbitrarily divided into seperate concepts and now that he's out of power and dead to most of the world the walls are falling down due to Anna Sprengel's fuckery in recent volumes.
