I am going to enter the debate about Usagi drop because I do read stories with big difference ages sometimes and the ending of Usagi drop was for more a message from the author that she is tired of continuing the story or was axed I don't know but here the flags for me that pointing about an rushed ending.
First, the hero, he did his role perfectly of father figure until she told him her feelings and just went along with it like the dude doesn't care anymore as long as she is happy. Same reason for the biological mother who abandoned the heroine. Heck, I was upset how the heroine even became cordial with her! Even Skip beat didn't got that lazy and properly made a good arc with Kyouko mother. But here, the adults just left the ship, imo.
Now the heroine, she was so hung up to her childhood friend who eventually rejected her again but that time she has enough to try searching for love. So when she tough about it, she just came to the reason there is no better man than her dad just because of her shitty childhood friend... The author clearly didn't wanted to introduce another male character at this point meaning no point of continuing the story.
Last thing, there was never a build toward romance between the 2 characters.
From my experience, shounen comedic romance or seisen don't go the way Usagi drop go otherwise they will just become hentai.
So I will just do like the anime did, pretend the ending of the manga never happened just like Ace death 😇
