Myon I think it's based on male chauvinism. There's been a bit of it in Western society too--like, back in the seventies or what, gay-bashing was a much bigger thing than lesbian-bashing. The point is, say you start from the idea that males are superior/higher-status/dominant. OK, so then homosexuality would be seen to involve at least one of the guys taking a demotion to something like feminine status. That lets the side down and undermines male dominance and stuff. Lesbianism doesn't feel like as much of a threat to masculine identity (which, if it's a sexist society, is the identity that really matters).
