Kaneki/Haise is remembering EVERYTHING. And I mean everything. Before he used to recall his mother as being an absolute saint, but here it's revealed he's repressed memories of her actually NOT being a good mother. It was his coping mechanism.

The scenes are basically conflating his view of his mother and Haise's rosy life as an investigator as sweet dreams Kaneki wishes was his life. But then he comes to the conclusion he doesn't deserve to dream or wish for anything, so he says good night to the sweet dream of Haise, Kaneki has to come back and suffer.

The second to last page is basically him saying he wants to do something memorable and enjoy the sweet release of death. Kaneki wants to die.
