Re-reading this after knowing both sides makes it much more painful.

In :re, we follow the doves and the human side of it all. How they feel when they lose loved ones to ghouls. It becomes so complicated because you can empathize with both sides, and it isn't as simple as just not eating humans. God this series is so good.

I completely forgot about this scene in the anime. Reading it is so heartbreaking. But if you think about it, from both sides, they both think they are doing right. We cannot blame the humans, nor the ghouls. As they are just trying to get through life. And if this story was true, we would all most certainly be those “heartless" humans.
