just hate the instant character development. It's like the author thinks that torture is gonna turn you into a cool edgelord when irl it just gives you trauma. I could understand Kaneki turning into a pessimist or being more serious but this is cringe.

The torture was not the thing that made him change, it was the dread of being weak and losing those he cares about because he fears being alone more than anything, that's also why he prattles to his mother for choosing others instead of him and why kaneki didn't want hide to know he was a ghoul.
