This just feels like that classic homophobia, where the author doesn't get that there's a difference between homosexuality, cross dressing, drag, and pedophilia (or, in this case, misses how rolling all of those traits into one character doesn't make him read as deep and complicated, and just portrays an outdated stereotype). And not to mention the whole rape thing. They butchered his character by simply not knowing anything about gay and queer culture and making him a really shitty and tired old stereotype.
