Nah, the dad wanted to name his true successor "Shinichi" (Ichi = one), but since Shinji could never live up to that name, the father changed his name into essentially reminding him that he's second place.
Yuuichi's name has "Ichi" in it, so he's the true successor (whether Yuuichi likes it or not).

Ah, so that's the cause for Bob's brain damage. It's legit a sad story, but I don't trust or like her as far as I can throw her. And I have the upper body strength of a toddler.
Plus it looks like Bob didn't want to forgive her mom, based on what we saw in earlier chapters. She's just torturing her mom like her father did, except now her mom can't leave due to her guilt.

Yuuichi also continues to scare me with every passing chapter.

Probably a literal or otherwise problematic translation of a Japanese word. My bet would be something along the lines of "dutiful" - he could not imagine himself leaving his wife and family, despite what the woman did; but his anxiety and frustration nonetheless kept piling up, until he started taking it out on them.
