In any normal scenario, one of two competitors withdrawing from the competition would just make the other the winner by default. But I guess we can't have that.

I feel like with how stuck up this school is with traditions, that they prob feel like its necessary for the winners to complete every trial. And the last trial seems like it needs two pairs.
It might also be a way to combat pairs with big cliques of followers. Where they enter the competition to just take up spots and then just withdraw once they guarantee the win for their idols.
AND if Ichigo came clean that her partner cheated than Yuri and Tanpopo would have the right to contest the results since they were the next and last group to legitimately pass trial 4? plus it could be said that it was rightfully theirs. What really helps doe is that the last trial hasn't happened yet.
