Yeah that's very much how a kid would deal with it, feeling responsible in that way seems mature, but isn't actually. Poor Ichika only realized that by doing it too. You're not gonna get over someone by spending more time with them, you're just gonna hurt yourself.

Idk about other mangas but in this story it makes sense for Haruto. He's naturally nice and concerned about others, but that doesn't mean he's wise. Her request was selfish and doomed to fail, and the story makes that abundantly clear with how their date ended up with both of them miserable
