Joe really does not deserve all the love and care he gets from those around him. They treat him like a prize (especially Danpei) but he creates and/or worsens his situations needlessly.
It is admirable, and perhaps something noble, when someone continues rising again and again from hardship (in life or in a boxing ring), but not when that person is the one putting himself in those situations needlessly and often at the expense of those around him.

@ceildric true, but im sure he will grow to learn and become a much better person, as this manga has the same author with ore wa teppei which i read in my childhood, and he also used some similar plot(ore wa teppei was written after ashita no joe) with that series about delinquent becoming a much more respectable person.
