It's already gone worse. The Nemesis-infused researcher is on the hunt, and nobody in town has the capability to respond or even perceive her and her attacks except for the MC, and she's powerless compared to the strength of the parasite.

Except the villagers won’t notice. It’s already shown that they’ll ignore any of the parasitised people when they’re in distress or dying.

The guy in the tunnel didn’t get fat from just eating healthy. I think she’ll get to that point because of the fact she can’t help but gorge herself. This is an ecosystem and if the predator keeps eating all of the prey it’ll throw the system out. Hence: the fatness. Keeps the predator from just dropping every brain balloon it can whilst the level of parasitised people can grow to a stable level.

Nature is certainly beautiful 🥲🥲🥲

Love how the author doesn’t give the MC much of a break, first the conscious slow death then being devoured alive, she'll definitely go crazy if she keep pretending not to see it.

I think it's cannibalism on two levels, since the scientists stated that the balloon heads are larvae of the same parasite that doesn't mature

Ngl for me this went from thriller to frustration.
Like how long can she keep that copium up???
It wasnt just the hoodie dude, even that scientist dude told her to wake up. She's way off the rails.
Like she was in the beginning of the series, eager to solve the mystery and even going as far as stabbing.
I dont expect her to be a hero, but at least lay off the copium damnit!

I wonder how this story will end? The kind where MC ends up actually perpetuating the parasite cycle (bad end), or turns out the hoodie dude is the actual protag? (good end)
