Her guilt from treating him like shit before is what did it.

Moreso than that, I think that he found some movies he actually really enjoys watching just for himself changed her perspective. Up until this point it was clear he had basically zero interest in films themselves, they were just a connecting thread he was trying to use to reach her. It wasn't really a point they had in common.

Even before that, there was the bit where in her room where they'd had a talk and he decided to just focus on the movie, and she said something like 'you're watching.' He was probably side glancing at her most of the time.

So this was different. I think this is the first time we've see the two just having fun together. It's like Shia is a completely different person. I still don't understand what caused her to change.

This sounds pretty on-point. The fact he's legitimately enjoying films alongside her is probably the biggest thing that's gotten her attention here, especially considering how that last night watching a film with her ended. Yeah, their round of apologizing and acknowledging their past failings and what not helped them understand each other a little better, but the fact he's actually finally embraced her hobby in earnest really is probably the biggest factor.

I honestly feel like there's not enough focus on romantic partners sharing passions like this in media. In my mind, this is such a vital aspect of forming a long-lasting bond with another person. To me, if you're not what would count as 'best friends' with each other, no matter how attracted to each other you are or think you are, there will come a time of friction between the things you like to do in your free time. If you can't at least appreciate each other's passions or hobbies, and enjoy them with each other, I question how things will last into old age.
