@emMeBi86 He realized it long ago, but he doesnt want to think it's true either because it clashes with how he views himself, he thinks he isn't ready for the consequences, or something else. Hence, he rationalizes it away, which is pretty common among ppl who think often, as he is shown to do and be good at doing.
