I don't think that what the teacher said is actually that bad, MC does need to avoid taking her feeling for granted, he needs to make sure he's taking her actual feelings into consideration before jumping the gun. Even if we know she likes him, he could easily just become a jerk.

I mean, I feel like he is still a jerk to her half the time out of being embarrassed about his feelings. Him growing out of that would help tremendously in progress and communication. If this idiot hadn't recorded himself saying all those nice things to her during the fireworks her whole experience thar night would just been him running off and her forcing them to hold hands.
