He means that Japanese idiosyncrasies do not translate all that well to other languages. People don't usually refer to their elder siblings as "BIG BRO / SIS!" It's more of a Japanese thing to go "onii-san". Just like how some people refer to older men as "Ojii-san", but how popular is it to call a senior as "uncle"? The words make sense, but the mannerism and culture do not.

Personally I don't really care either way, but I can understand why it'd scratch people the wrong way when translators try to forcefully translate one aspect of a culture into another, rather than maintain it as it is.

HOWEVER...A pet peeve I do have, and it's a huge one, is how in Chinese / Japanese, they mix up "Thunder" and "Lightning" together.

Maybe it makes sense that in Japanese or w/e "Thunder magic" makes sense. Maybe. But it makes 0% sense in English, and it's silly to try to force it in there.
I don't care about onii-san / big bro. W/e, at least that makes some sense in English. But treating Thunder, a sound, as Lightning, a form of energy? Now that's something that should NOT be forced on to a language.

I've never heard anyone call dildos "bullet" in porn, or anywhere for that matter, really.

Because it's not a dildo it's a "bullet vibrator" or Bullet Vibe as they're most often called feel free to google the term and you can find ones with remotes as well because of their size they can be inserted and not fall out.

I'm not arguing semantics I'm telling you the name of the product bullet vibes is literally what they're called.
You're right that I too haven't heard anyone calling them Bullets alone, but when they were calling her bullet and they switched on the vibe I knew instantly why they called her that. The Japanese term for it is rotor though so I guess it was down to the original translator using the best to their knowledge.

"Rotor" is wasei-eigo. The meaning it conveys for English-speaking reader is not the same as in Japan, these type of words should be avoided in translation as it can warp the meaning.

@T_O_W that's literally what it means, but siblings in english-speaking countries don't refer to each other as "big bro" or "little sis". They use bro/sis but even that is rare, they just call themselves by name.

Translating "onii-chan" as "big bro" is at the same level as translating -san as "mister".
