Elevator technology is as old as pulleys, mate. The earliest example of an elevator dates to 236 BC. It's just screw-drive-based (similar concept to a worm gear, really) elevators are a much more recent invention, sometime in the late 1700's.

He doesn't see him as an equal. He's her subordinate and I feel that blocks her from pursuing further in her relationship with him because she feels she's abusing her authority (regardless of the times this was used for comedy, she might subconsciously fear that she will lose him if she does)

Yes, because the manga went to shit. If I just want loads of topless women there’s hentai. There was a plot of haru chasing the captain for the whole manga and now we have to deal with a whole arc that has no value. He’s not going to cheat, he’s going to waste 40 chapters fucking around until Karen has to rush off to save him for some reason and they’re reunited in this stupid country.

It’s boring because we all know exactly how it’s going to go.
