I am curious if the foxes who have black hair as humans, are also black furred as foxes.

Are there black japanese foxes?

Thank you again, sarusa. Another cozy chapter, and I always like chapters with Kogane's parents. Good on Ginei for not pressuring his family to take on the duty he bears.

So far we've only seen Kogane and Mugi as foxes, so not enough info. The only noticeable features are that Kogane has black ears in both forms, Mugi has lighter ears in both forms, and Kogane has a cowlick as a fox. But haven't seen Akane or Douji as foxes to know.

Also it annoys me that Akane's name means 'red' when her hair is black and her eyes are gold. I'm kind of hoping she IS red in fox form.

Ah yes, the japanese and their ambiguos preferences even for names :notlikethis: At least leave names alone, having to explain your name every day gets old really fast :aquadrink:

I got bored and checked for lols, and apparently black japanese foxes do exist IRL, though they are rare.

Hmm... I have no idea if it's worse or easier in Japanese, but I quickly checked some scans of text from the 16th century, in my native tongue, and I have to say the first thing would be to get used to the font, which isn't anything like we are used to. It's hard to read, unless you are used to it. I'm very much not. The vocabulary was mostly understandable, perhaps. But only mostly, and I just had a brief look. In Goro's case, I reckon he would actually want to understand everything, lest he misunderstandz exactly the most critical detail. Considering Japanese has been written for a whole lot longer than my native language, a part of me wants to believe it would have been standardised a lot earlier. But on the other hand, in reality, Japanese folks are still learning to read and write their own language when they are in the university (because there's a load of obscure kanji to learn), which ought to make it a lot worse.

In the end, all languages keep changing, so it can't be helped.

This chapter was really good to see how the fox community functions. I wonder if Goro would qualify as the dad's replacement or any children Goro and Kogane might have in the future and would they be a fox or a human.

It's a very interesting process to watch fonts and languages change over time. When you mentioned it. I checked my country's 16th century texts. It's quite funny to see both Latin and Gothic fonts but when read it sounds like the ravings of drunk, I can read it but it takes time lol.

Something tells me Akane might not mind being a part of a troublesome family, but we'll have to wait and see if my hunch proves to be correct.
