Well, it's not purely historical fantasy at all. We've seen a guy with google as a sacred treasure, a kami fighting a black hole, and more.I wasn't expecting to see a deus ex machina come from human love ending in a positive note. Alongside a strangely cyberpunk themed arc in this historical fantasy manga. Neat
The simulation wasn't real. What they did wasn't actually happening anywhere in the world. It's just that the grass actually represented humans and how gods actually behaved in their worldWait, so the simulation is real? I like the bittersweet feeling at the end
That's not quite true. For many people, what they hold dearest is not themselves, but something beyond themselves. Be it their country, family, religion, etc. Especially in a world where gods actually walk among humans, even if rarely sothe fate of men should be left to men.
When the time to spill blood comes, the ones who will lay down their lives for what they hold dear aren't the almighty kami, in all their glory and power, but the weak and simple-minded men.
That said, thanks for the chapter! I'm really curious about the identity of the old man now, most of the Gods we've met so far are very whimsical but at least they've had the heart do admit that humanity should be left to it's own devices, this guy though? He's playing sims with his worshippers.
You missed the remark about processing power. If the simulation is done accurately enough, it is real. Those were practically real people, just not part of the original world. The simulation wasn't real. What they did wasn't actually happening anywhere in the world. I didn't miss it. It's a sandbox that simulates the way humans work. They are virtual entities built to mimic the way gods think humans behave. They are just puppetsYou missed the remark about processing power. If the simulation is done accurately enough, it is real. Those were practically real people, just not part of the original world.
Very iain m banks of the author to say this

Neither you, nor I, nor anyone else here has any way to prove we aren't "simulated", nor that said simulation isn't itself running in a simulation another level up and so on. And indeed that's actually one of the more relatively pleasant possible futures for humanity in an exponential tech growth world, where we break down the solar system into a matryoshka brain or similar and then a Universe 2.0 that is friendlier to baseline/near-baseline humans. Possibly with some gods to oversee things and make sure our new selves avoid any true apocalypses.I didn't miss it. It's a sandbox that simulates the way humans work.
