Ooooh Another character based on a real world historical figure! Hieta No Are is likely based on Hieda no Are, who was thought to be “instrumental in the compilation of the Japanese text Kojiki in 712“ (according to Wikipedia).
They are said to trace their ancestry to the goddess Ame-no-Uzame (The one who woke Ameterasu from the cave) and is heavily speculated to have been a woman.

One ending for the legend of Zenki (Zen) and Gouki (Miyo), the oni servants of En-no-Ozuno, has them retiring to Dorogawa with their five children to set up an onsen there. This may be that first Dorogawa Onsen. Those children supposedly set up the "Five Houses of Dorogawa", the five traditional onsen ryokan in the area. En-no-Ozuno is actually associated with onsen culture, being credited with founding almost all the onsen spots in Japan.

We better not get to the end of this series without En-no-Ozuno resolving his eternal rivalry with that most ancient of time travelers, Lucius of Rome, Magister of the Thermae for emperors Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, and Marcus Aurelius!
