Former Hell =/= Beast Realm or the various other Hells for that matter

Also I think you're severely overestimating the amount of time Former Hell stays quarantined, Reimu is on her way to deal with Mizuchi once and for all, give her a few hours and it'll be open again.

Miyadaguchi... is the name of a family that used to serve Hakurei Shrine.
Ok, I honestly did not see that one coming. I surely ain't the only one that got surprised like that, right?

But that begs the question, what the hell (no pun intended) could've happened that would've made her hate the very shrine she served? Also, there's no way Yukari couldn't have know who exactly Mizuchi is and why she's on a rampage.

Edit: Waitwaitwaitwait- I just remembered something... Okuu's still in the underground and hasn't made an appearance yet has she? I have a baaaaaaaaad feeling that Mizuchi's gonna try and possess her now that Satori's isn't there to keep her in check, she's gonna try to do what Okuu couldn't back in SA... YABE! KORE WA HONTOUNI YABE KOREYA!

Gensokyo exists thanks to the Great Hakurei Barrier, and the Hakurei shrine maiden is tasked with preserving the current balance of power, which has youkai effectively ruling over humans. If the Miyadeguchi served the Hakurei in a time before Gensokyo - which is what Reimu confirms - it was at a time when the Hakurei weren't yet in league with the youkai sages.

So: Gensokyo is what happened. Maybe the Miyadeguchi went extinct because Gensokyo was created, even - the Hakurei made the deal, and the Miyadeguchi saw it as a betrayal and fought back, and lost. That would create quite the impressive amount of resentment.

Yukari is obnoxious in that she acts as though she knows everything even when she doesn't, and rarely reveals all that she knows even if she does know something. But if the Miyadeguchi predate Gensokyo, they may predate Yukari's involvement in the area we now know as Gensokyo, too.

On a scale from 1 to 10, I wonder how irrelevant to the story will be the thing Remi is talking about.

Not sure if that is honestly that dangerous. Okuu is a weird beast. She is stated to not actually be that dangerous, because she is not that smart. So even though she has a really nasty power, she will brute force everything if she does something, and someone more clever will trip her up enough for them to get an opportunity to convince her to do something else.

So, having someone possess her should make her more dangerous, because they are smarter, right? Well, no, probably not. If I remember correctly, her power requires her to understand nuclear physics, and that was part of why it was better for her to be dumb going into becoming an avatar of a dead god. So, with that assumption in mind, Okuu is probably genius level at nuclear physics, dumb at everything else, and needs those genius level skills at nuclear physics to do what she does. If I remember correctly, there are flaws with the possession that make using a power that requires high level understanding of nuclear physics a highly questionable idea.

She's been following the sequence of incidents, and her family used to serve the shrine. So maybe it's the classic issue that the Hakurei shrine is supposed to be about youkai extermination, but instead Reimu lets youkai hang around all the time (but only if they're cute girls, RIP Fortune Teller). It would be kind of boring since it's a pretty standard plot-line at this point, but it is something that would explain the grudge and the targets.

Okuu's still in the underground and hasn't made an appearance yet has she?
On that note, has Koishi appeared? I don't remember her showing up but I'm not sure if that's because she actually hasn't, or if I forgot because she's Koishi.

I'm pretty sure the "Okuu is an expert in nuclear physics" thing is one of those ideas that's been wildly exaggerated by the fandom over time, in this case derived from a couple inconclusive lines of dialogue from Hisoutensoku. It's never actually mentioned in SA or in Symposium of Post-Mysticism, anyways.

Though it is canon that her low intelligence makes her better suited for Yatagarasu's powers. As Kanako said in Post-Mysticism: "The simpler the holder's brain is, the better able they are to control a power beyond what they could normally hold." So with that in mind, I'm really not sure what would happen if Mizuchi tried possessing someone like that.

Either way, now that we're here, I reckon it's highly likely that Okuu is getting possessed, and bad things are going to happen when she does.

Good thinking, but I'm afraid I'll have to nitpick a bit at what you wrote.

1. Reimu didn't say that the Miyadeguchi predated the Hakurei, just that they served the shrine before she and Gensokyo were born. Of course, you could easily say that this was... whatever the religious equivalent of a hostile takeover is and that they changed the name, but I think there's more to it than that.

2. What you said about Yukari being... Yukari is right for the most part, but having the Miyadeguchi predate her seems like a bit of a stretch. But that's all besides the point. My point was that Yukari HAD to have, at the very least, known about them since that family was in charge of the shrine pre-Gensokyo, even she didn't know about Mizuchi herself.
