At some point, Reimu must have undergone some sort of character growth - looks like Azumaya decided to jam literally all of it into a battle shounen retelling of the Vampire Incident. It doesn't get more rock bottom than almost getting straight up murdered by Rumia.

Seeing Reimu as when she was still weak is surprisingly refreshing.

It's usually not the case 'cause it's emphasized time and again that Reimu's incredibly talented, so a straightforward interpretation would be that she's always been powerful.
