Hmm I thought Nitori's sign resembles a jellyfish more than an octopus and there are endangered freshwater jellyfish, but they're also associated with the fortune god Ebisu in Japan. However I don't think the humans in the village are that stupid confusing an octopus for a jellyfish so who knows whats actually happening.

totally thought shion would just cease to exist outside of flashbacks after her chapter, so seeing her still in the bar was a treat. sopping wet girlfail my beloved
anyway, it would be possible for octopi to show up in gensokyo if a species of it went extinct in the real world, but there's still too many directions this could go in to narrow things down further. i would gladly accept a wakasagihime or eika appearance tho.
