peak is over…

this has been a wild ride. before reading i barely knew what was going on with these anime girls and now i literally know how to play the game. (and also that calling them “anime” can get my ass doxxed by diehards)

i’ll truly miss this series. maybe next we’ll get touhou poker. or mao.

Everyone's so addicted that they're still competing and discussing new strategy and meta after they finish lol.

Thanks for the chapter, I don't know much about mahjong but it was a fun read.

So... who won? I'm confused.
Youmu seems to win, considering Remi's flashback and Yuyuko calling her "Youmu-sama".

I don't know much about mahjong but you can check GumidSas and FrozenCard's comments for how she win.

No, Remilia won. She needed 13,700 points to pass Youmu. Akyuu and Marisa called riichi which lowered the value she needed to 11,700 (You place a 1,000 point stick on the board when you declare riichi and whoever wins the hand wins that stick, so 2 of those is 2,000). She then landed a direct hit on Youmu for 6,400 (Patchouli mentions this at the end). Youmu losing 6,400 and Remilia gaining 6,400 is a difference of 12,800 at the end which is enough for Remilia to barely pass Youmu by 1,100 (Patchouli also mentions this). This is probably also why, "Youmu's been off since the big tournament" according to the Cirno cup players.

Also to explain why Remi's hand that was previously worth "2,600" according to Aya is worth 6,400 now.

Han
Green dragon/hatsu
South wind/nan
Under the river/haitei (calling ron on the last discarded tile)
3 han

Fu
20 (Automatic)
4 (Open honour triplet)
8 + 8 (Closed honour/terminal triplets)
2 (Kanchan, middle wait on 5-7)
42 fu total rounding up to 50 (You always round up for some reason)

So 3 han 50 fu, 6400
I won't get into why 3 han 50 fu is 6.4k, the calculations are a pain even if you've played riichi mahjong for a long time (people usually memorise the table because of how much of a pain they are) but that's the gist of it.

I thought you could be called sama as long as you make it to the final?

If she did in fact lose, I think the title drop is big cursed

I'm pretty sure that what Patchouli described was an alternate outcome where Remillia could've won, rather than what had actually happened in the tournament match. Especially since (in the translation that is) she said stuff like "were you able" and "could". When I was looking at Japanese discussion of the last chapter, someone reviewing the last chapter talked about how the results of the tournament were "hidden" until the last panel revealed the winner, and then the manga author replied by stating that they built up the last panel all the way from the beginning of the story, pretty much confirming it.

The reason Youmu became demotivated to play after the tournament is because the sole reason she became interested in the tournament in the first place is that Yuyuko would praise her if she won.

That makes a lot of sense. Can I see the Japanese discussion for later reference?

thank you for translating it ive had my eye on it for a while & was waiting for it to be finished- and then forgot lol. very very happy i got to read it in full now
such an awesome story - some of the most enjoyable manga fiction out there really. very pleasant take on the superpowered/supernatural mahjong trope à la saki et al, but that actually contributes to the tension & intrigue of the games instead of just ruining it lol. loved the local yaku game that was a real treat to see for me, and the way marisas woven into the story was really really good. overall a nice balance of hot mahjong action without being too offputting to non-players. yaaaaaay awesome. akyuus incomplete tile reading reminded me of the ganpai-heavy games in ten actually and i do say this one as a compliment. what a treat
