That was plants in the carbiniferous period as well as like plankton. It's largely plant matter making our fossil fuels. And they're not gone as evidenced by the sheer amount of eggs and poultry people consume. And any non-avians died LOOOONG before the ice age. At best is Qinornis which is kinda cheating since it's an avialan not in the group Aves (all modern birds)

It is an ornithuran which includes modern birds and their relatives, the foot bones are how you can tell it's not a bird (as in the modern birds cause *Aves is a crown group lol) and even this guy only lasted a few million years after the KPG extinction
