@ThunderaMaou At the end of chapter 19 you can read that other animals like rats, rabbits, apes and other examples show no signs of infections but can be carriers.
Also, the rats we saw on the early chapters were violent as fuck, but they didnt have any kind of mutation sign. Maybe driven mad due to hunger or just rabid.
