a Ranged martial fighter kinda feels like it falls squarely between our Thief & our Melee Frontliner, to me.
I could see a dedicated "class" around bows and/or firearms coming out of the woodwork, though I don't know where they would have been hiding in the world up to this point that there's zero mention of that level of adventurer or individual going around.

An archer could just be a 1000 year old elven ranger recluse that sits in a massive continent-spanning forest in solitude, but someone using firearms seems incapable of staying hidden and an unknown quantity, given the inherent destructive (and loud) nature of any sort of gunpowder/ballistics-based weapon like that. Having a person be an S-class of that sort of magnitude on the level of these 4, gives me the mental image of a single individual carrying around the firepower of a modern-era industrialized nation's military, which....doesn't seem like someone who'd just "suddenly appear" on the scene with no hints up to now, like second-hand knowledge of them doesn't exist all over the place.

So if we do get a 5th teacher, I would lean toward Archer more than someone using guns of any variety, I think - and I suspect it would have to come off the back of some story arc that sees them traveling overseas.

Isn't there already an elf in the mix? Instead, have you considered:

Just make a dwarven genius mad scientist girl who's made all sorts of modern/sci-fi weapons to teach Cross about science, magic item crafting, and ranged weapons. And no one would've heard about her because she's pretty underground.

Realistically, Cross currently has, effectively, the ideal weapon for his specific combat build. There's really zero reason for him to have other weapons at this point, except maybe specialized armor, but armor might be unneeded if he becomes sufficiently powerful with Sera's help alongside the other Three - and we've seen that the item can become things like a shield, and that's what we know so fari

That is a fair point. I was chuckling over how much Seras presented herself AS an emotionally mature and wise mentor (compared to the other three anyway) and then almost IMMEDIATELY flies into even more blatant grooming than them while still educating him. That said, her using a dancing ball heist as part of that training after making him think of dancing as similar to sexual intimacy is shaping to be a fun touch.

Cross is enjoying himself while those close him are falling apart at the seams from panic due to his absence. I don't know if I should find this hilarious or sad.

I mean, at least half of them actually know that he'd end up enjoying some part of his time with Seras.

After all, Seras DID say, in public, that she wanted to train him, and Cross at least would enjoy some amount of training. The issue is that some of them just can't stand being apart from him (which also didn't hear that part from Seras) and also that the rest just don't want Seras to enjoy herself with Cross.
