Of course they got away with it. What a surprise

If you guys really feel sorry about it, then you should confess that you tried to lure and murder him. Repent it by going to jail or be a slave labor, and then we can talk

Like I & many others predicted, they got 0 punishment even if Cross is the typical nice guy MC. I would've settled for all of them getting detention or extensive remedial classes (something that will acknowledged that they did something fucked up even if the intention was to "protect" him) but no point arguing over spilled milk. I can assume he's going to get new equipment in the future if the monster parts are used but we'll see. Thanks for the chapter.
I feel that that thing will happen and just skip fast reading those chapters pages, just why bother if they forgive a psych... some bullies

I wonder if some of the author's intent was lost in translation, but the girl and Co clearly weren't trying to kill the MC.
In the chapter before the whole thing goes off, she states they are going to "half-kill" him which is not "kill" by definition.
And her throwaway thought about "we gotta catch him or we're getting expelled" was most likely implying she wanted to beat him up to the point where he would be too scared to snitch on them (i.e. regular bullying, which was the theme of the arc)

A degree of confusion is understandable but claiming "murder" without a shadow of a doubt is misguided.
You are creating a false narrative and then complaining about it.

The way I see it, Giselle wanted to discourage stubborn Cross from becoming an adventurer. The trap she set up was her getting carried away. I'm guessing her need for prestige has got something to do with being from the orphanage, or perhaps her desire to become stronger to protect Cross has become twisted. It doesn't absolve her of anything; she should be at least show some remorse.

'Sorry killed a man in a lorry' They used to say when I was a kid but here its fine.

None of the masters has done anything, the school has done nothing, the mc is too braindead nice to stick up for himself and he still wants to be friends with her and only reason they asked for forgiveness is absolve themselves of guilt because some random monster showed up and nearly killed them all.

Brilliant author-san you are masterclass at writing peak garbage.

I love it.

I think the issue lies in her words and how she acted - growing seemingly more unhinged with each appearance and escalating her threats towards the MC... Then she decides to get her entire gang - fully armed - to jump him once he is isolated in the woods...

In many other stories this would absolutely be attempted murder by an early antagonist.

We do now have the benefit of hindsight to see that a past trauma imprinted on her absolute importance of power - which led to her initial bullying of Cross... She was young and very stupid, so violence and cruelty was all she could think to use to dissuade his goal. This lead to her taking this stance as normal habit and she went full on jerkass until current events shocked her system hard enough to break routine.

It is the fine line between someone saying "I'll kill him" meaning beat him savagely, and "I'll kill him" meaning take his life. For a little while, it was hard to tell which way she was aiming.

Not that she has made up for any of this by a long shot. I don't blame anyone for disliking her. I'm hardly a fan myself...

Idk man, half-killing him and leave him to struggle in the middle of the forest sounds like a murder to me

Also they literally wielding their swords and tried to kill him in previous chapter. Thats definitely not a regular bullying

People are jumping to conclusions exactly because they aren't reading into what's being said.
I agree that the writing is flawed but if we go by what was explicitly stated by the author, the whole affair was not an attempted murder.
It's not a problem of not having enough information, and having hindsight doesn't really change anything - people are just deliberately choosing to ignore what the author has said.
It is the fine line between someone saying "I'll kill him" meaning beat him savagely, and "I'll kill him" meaning take his life. For a little while, it was hard to tell which way she was aiming.
Ironically, at least in the translation at hand, the word she uses isn't "kill" either. Insisting on using "crush" instead of a "kill" is yet another indication readers chose to overlook.
The first time "kill" is used throughout the arc is at the end during her tsundere moment.

Also they literally wielding their swords
And during the "Reinstatement Exam", he was dueling the girl fully armed.
I guess they both bled out and died.

What I'm saying is that the precedent for non-lethal fully armed combat was already set in the prior events.
It's far from uncommon for a shonen fantasy to just accept that cutting weapons aren't inherently lethal.
and tried to kill him in previous chapter
That literally didn't happen, which is exactly my point.
Thats definitely not a regular bullying
I have no idea where this confidence comes from when the story clearly wasn't heading in that direction, the characters have openly stated it's not going there, and then it evidently didn't go there.

Now, I wonder if those that didn't like the fact Cross doesn't act like he was the MC in a wuxia story will drop the manga?

Personally, it's obvious this manga is aiming at young people and want to deliver a happy and optimistic story, where everybody becomes friends.

Those who want a cold blooded MC that kill all their enemies and/or manipulate everybody should really search for a manwha or a cultivator story, there are a lot of character like that in those, like Player Who Returned 10,000 Years Later, or even FFF-class Trash Hero.

Nope. Possibly the translator has created an unfaithful narrative. But we are responding to the narrative that was presented to us.

Now, if you are correct that they weren't trying to kill him, they were still engaged in a criminal act that should result in expulsion and imprisonment. This story can be “half” as fucked-up as it seems and still be fucked-up.

k there’s gotta be a mistranslation or something. maybe a typo in the raws? thats the only reason i can think of for why they’re all just forgiven. maybe they were actually trying to scare him from adventuring originally, but since he kept refusing to stop, it continued to escalate over time, to the point of trying to seriously injure him?

that or im just trying to make excuses for shit writing.

yea, it would’ve been a lot better if it showed her bullying escalating over time or something. like they could make it look like originally it wasnt that bad but it just kept getting worse and worse until it got out of hand or something
