As of the moment of writing this, the latest chapter is at a cliffhanger with protag hearing the former guy friend moaning and crying on the phone with clapping sounds being heard, while the protag has a hollow spiteful expression as she listens.

Some comments think it may be because she thinks her friend is cheating on her, or it could be that she knows her friend is getting raped

People are ok after having a massive and rapid physical alteration done to them? No, they are fucked right up by that.

i would accept this more as a deconstruction of tropes if it didnt feel like it was reveling in its depicted cruelty. like maybe it's just me, but this comes off less as "look how fucked up this is" and more like "isn't it kind of hot how fucked up this is"
