Comeuppance/karma is always nice. But damn, that's really sad that it is something transmissable like that. It already sucks enough to have the body forcibly change sex like that, but that makes it immensely difficult for one to find a lover even if they adapt to the new body, since there is the risk of causing the same thing to them. Which is just an even worse thing to add to the trauma this MC has already endured.

I wouldve had it be something more like "having intercourse with someone with the disease who recently changed, has a chance of spreading while it still lingers in their system".

Thus leaving the person who changed with the option to safely have a partner in the future if they wished. While also providing means of punishing people like that vile POS who took advantage of MC against their will.

Even if they can identify whatever causes it, that doesn't mean they can make a vaccine or do anything to prevent it. Just look at the common cold and the flu, we've know what causes them for ages but are no closer to finding a cure now than we were back then. COVID-19 is another good example, even if we do manage to put together a vaccine, that doesn't mean that those given the vaccine won't succumb to the symptoms as a result of receiving the vaccine, and if a large enough proportion refuse the vaccine then it can just mutate a new strain that the vaccine isn't effective against.
