Yeah, that whole line about how “spiritual regeneration” requires some kind of “bipolar loop” between “yin energy and yang energy” is a whole load of horse crap, because it doesn't stop the yuri scenes, now does it? Just admit you don't wanna do BL scenes or explore penis-fencing, mate. That's way less cowardly than working out some kind of “in-universe” explanation about why it makes sense. You've got people fucking sapient magical objects who have no reason to be any particular gender, or even have gender at all.

Even having the author breaking the fourth wall to just admit that they couldn't do BL because of sheer cowardice or didn't want to scare the straights would have been better than just… this.

This could easily just be resolved by Kazuya or the Tsukumogami in question just flatly refuse. Or hell even the logic anon posited that it's based on sexual attraction so two hetero guys fumbling around would do nothing for them. Or even that it only works with Tsukumogami he's in ownership of.
Like I thought it was kinda cool that by having close skinship with kiriha, Kazuya's mom accidentally cracked the code to having a strong bond with your Tsukumogami. But apparently no it didn't do anything.

I'll have to agree with the other comments. Its a pretty cheap and bullshit explanation. And i do think it stands out because otherwise this manga has great writing.
Seems weird to write yourself into a corner with Kanaka "Understanding" and getting closer to Kiriha to learn how to use her propperly and then backing out with same sex compatibility issues on the next arc.
Then again the main drive of the author is clearly introducing cute girls to draw naked and lewd so maybe its just an inevitable downfall. Maybe they can write themselves into a better explanation later on
