We miss all the backstory on just how this so called nobody joins the Hero party... or the fact that as someone alluded to above intentionally or not, apparently the Hero party was actually a group of backstabbing power hungry and/raving lunatics aiming to control each other or usurp the victory for defeating the demon king... and he was literally the glue that held them together, sane, and friendly with each other... his power apparenty manifesting to actually change their minds and outlook to become true friends.... mostly

by the way they talk, I think the hero party has basically given up on humanity and don't see the worth of saving them, they didn't even try to correct them when Cross was called a "burden", probably because they see it as a lost cause. Meanwhile, Cross is the proof that the journey is worth it, because there are good guys like Cross in the world it is a world worth saving
