Why does it seem like the MC is talking fondly of the scumbag Hero who not only abused him but also abused everyone else? Especially since we know that him being a Hero is not some divine pre-ordained thing but just a government controlled title.

MC seems to be turning from a strategic thinker to an adrenaline battle junkie here, albeit just for a short bit, with a general excuse of "Oh it's just like my alchemical experiments".

Then again, considering how he made Allen drink all his home made potions, he might be subconsciously be looking at Allen as his human testing guinea pig and part of him has started to turn into full Hojo from Shinra.

Like the Doma chapter showed, Rick is all about using setbacks to make breakthroughs, learning from failures, and making miraculous potions from all the wrong ingredients. He wants Allen to do something surprising, the dungeon and stuff will be better for it.

That doesn't sound very reasonable.

It's like saying I need you to kick me in the balls when I least expect it so that I can be driven into a corner to get my creative juices running to get a new breakthrough.

If it was unintended that's fine, but if he actively is wanting to experience setbacks, that seems suicidal to me.

It's how the Golden Potions work, you have to be in a pinch for your Limit Break to come out.
