Wow, even their king wasn't the usual corrupt and vindictive bastard. He just lost the hero, his son (and possible heir) and he told his son's surviving comrade to live in hiding instead of ordering her execution. I guess he knew his son would do something like save her.

I hope he can tell Tia the truth about the world-hopping. Keeping his mouth shut and not being honest has actually dire consequences (surprise!) that literally cost her her life span. If he didn't pretend to be the same old weak guy who just lived in another country, maybe that could have been prevented.

This is honestly standing out more to me than most stories in this subgenre. I'd say this is how you write a reasonably original story even with non-original tropes: through creative execution. I've already gone through a number of banished fantasies that turned out to be forgettable or trashy, so I'm hoping this is one of those rare hidden gems.

I registered just to post this:

I highly, highly suggest reading the partially translated (LN) novel. At least for this arc.
I beg this of you, to avoid spoilers -- while letting you retain greatest enjoyment of both adaptations.

You can diverge here (chapter 5 end). Or better yet the previous one since art is great (chapter 4 end).
I get the feeling they are going to compress a very deep and moving narrative in the name of manga adaptation.

The novel for this is great, and I hope reading it (with the manga's art and visuals) gives you the same impact I felt.
i checked mangaUpdates cuz it usually says whether theres a LN but i didnt see it mentioned. where did you read it?

Why would the MC blame himself for his "friend" being a suicidal dumbass?

I'm also confused why he seems to care for her so much when she was one of the ones responsible for kicking him out of the party in the first place? No amount of guilt after the fact should excuse the fact that they exiled someone who was trying their hardest to support them and they ultimately reaped what they sowed.

I'm not sure about the LN but the WN is definitely available in NovelUpdates (NU) It's an aggregator site where they compile most of the available online fan translations. And they'll redirect you to the TL's site instead of their own so it's all good 👍🏽

Highly recommend using NU if you're a novel reader.

Oh boy that question might be a bit too naive and destructive for a situation such as this...

All of Tia's efforts, albeit partly being too gung ho even if it's just to show off in front of Ed, feel special. She really feels that it's the end of the line, so she's willing to give everything away for a chance of him living another day.

Giving someone who has withered enough and gathered enough closure, to be ready to die, suddenly an entire life in front of her...

Trying out an overpowered skill that can take you "back to the beginning" with few insight as to its consequences for the people involved...

I hope he knows what he's doing. If he doesn't have any other choice, I hope this stunt goes well.

p.s. that multi blood cleave attack was cool asf

Technically she was already dying
Based on the WN, she already using her lifespan to make herself unnoticed by the surrounding and was asleep all this time until Ed arrives. Her being awake is what attracted the monsters there and the last time she remembers Ed, he was pretty much not a combatant.

The time passed in Tia world when Ed was banished was only few years so of course she doesn't know how strong Ed has become. She also been staying asleep in hopes that any of the former hero party come back alive, but after Ed has already confirmed that Hero and Monk is dead and finally being able to see Ed again, Tia have no regrets left and her only final wish from Ed is to have him bring her to Hero and Monk final resting place so she can finally rest (die)
So no worries, as long as they follow the WN, story will still be good
As long as they changed the way Tia and Ed interact in the novel, Ed acts like your generic mc in the novel and I thought so far the manga is doing a good job

Not sure how I'm supposed to feel about a person being so needlessly over-protective, to the point of practically giving away their life, when the person they want to protect even said "I've got this".

Like she may just not want to see her friends possibly get hurt anymore, but there must have been a better way to write it; this came across as annoying rather than dramatic.
not a mindful reader i see
1. survival guilt, so she not gonna bet on a "i've got this" and let another one of her comrade die
2. she could have not listen to it because she was focusing on the dragon
3. she doesnt know jackshit about how strong he has become, last thing she remember is he was only a very good porter

Multiple replies, sorry, but I'll just point out that she is p much resolved to deal with the dragon's attack, p. 11. Adding a "flashback" scene would pad out and diminish her intention in this panel.

Yes, the MC said "I can do this much, piece of cake", but at that point, the dragon already breathes fire; visible from the shading technique on the page where everything but his face-facing side is hatched.

All in all, I take it as a split-second "in the moment". For all I know, Tia is already casting the spell.
I wouldn't say there is a better way to write it, as much as I think this is finely fitting for the story beat that is happening. Of course, this is in the context of the split-second moment.
