Ohhh. I get it. The bell represents her ties to her mother, or really, her trying to be her mother (and by extension, her obsession with Madoka). So now that she's lost the bell, she's free to be herself (and by extension, kiss Hikaru).

Binged up to the current chapter to wait for the finale.
Hmmm. What to say. There's lots of things I really like about this series.
My only real beef is that there are a lot of things being rushed here at all the final arc and it just short of cheapens everything occurring right now. I like that the Author decided to make the romances messy, that you don't necessarily like the person who likes you. Not enough manga I feel deal with that sort of subject. Especially when the two are quite compatible, normally the rejection route is that one of the two is a complete ass and gets rejected as such. It's rare to see it handled where both characters act realistically. The truth that Hotaruko likes Hikaru's uncle. It's a hard pill to swallow but there it is.

I think by placing the Hotaruko's confession right next to Hikaru doing this stunt of telling Hotaruko he loves her and then kissing her, in like what? the next day?, just feels cheap like Hikaru was given second place by his Uncle. The whole thing just leaves a bland taste in my mouth. She literally rejected him for his Uncle and then decides to do a retake? Talk about awkward fucking family reunions.

I get the more 'trope' styled way of telling the story would be for Hotaruko to realize on her own that the Uncle is like a father-figure and for her to never confess and naturally fall in love with Hikaru. So playing the story the way the Author did was certainly intriguing. But it feels like it was done for shock value with no regard to the overall narrative. I mean what's the moral or the overall lesson we're supposed to learn here? You know what I would've liked? How to keep it almost exactly the same but with a minor difference?

Have Hotaruko get rejected by the Uncle. Hikaru eventually ends up learning about it, or realizes it on his own. Then we can have a little tidbit about how this event is what made her start to look at Hikaru in a new light. As such she realizes how much Hikaru had to step outside his own comfort to get closer to her. Hotaruko then decides that she needs to take the first step to Hikaru if she actually wants to pursue a relationship with him (since she was the one who rejected him). We could then have a little panel of her wanting to ask him something in the future, hinting at what that conversation would be about. THATS IT. Don't fucking sit here and rush this weirdass romance. I swear the Editor was like "the FUCK do you mean they dont kiss?"

@shoker I agree, they dragged the uncle "romance" way too long and didn't left enough time to get the ending they were planning: you don't get over the love of your life in a couple of hours. I would have given just a glint of hope in the ending chapters, and eventually get them together in the epilogue. Or ended the uncle "romance" a couple of chapters after he told them the whole story, leaving space for the "main" romance to properly grow.
But yeah, still a 9/10 for me.

Say... At page 15... Are those the main characters from "The Blue Flowers and The Ceramic Forest"? The guy looks a bit short, though...
