It's hard to read, but I do like how the abuse is being handled. None of this "mama has a sad backstory so it excuses everything" or "mama said 'sorry' and is now a completely different person and none of the abuse matters anymore" or "mama's family so you have to forgive all her abuse" bullshit like I see in so many other media. It's rather realistic, really.

I remember in the comments to the chapter where the mom was introduced and threatened Marika, that someone said her actions were justified. 😒 Well, it's 100% clear now that the story is saying she is a rotten person and "horrible" doesn't even describe her as a mother.

*sigh

I have a feeling that Marika's mother needed a hug right in the middle of her breakdown.

Waiting past that, with her mind now dead-set on destruction (to herself, to that guy, and anyone else that might be "in her way"), even these sincere gestures will fall flat.

...well, maybe I'm just projecting. I think hugs are powerful. Plus, omelettes are peak.

In any case, it doesn't matter if it were just Marika-chan or Marika with Takae's memories. No good mother shouts at her child, right when said child is genuinely attempting to console her own parent.

How dare the author put drama in this story. I wish this manga was just 50 volumes of paint drying instead.
