About Ao appearing in this manga like I mentioned in ch 63, I'm going to overanalyze this

For years, the timeline of Hachigatsu has been a total mystery to me, but I think I finally cracked it

I started hunting for subtle hints, like the school yearbook in this manga. And turns out, there is a clue. In Hachigatsu ch 4, we catch a glimpse of a calendar. The text itself is unreadable, but it’s pretty safe to assume it’s August. Based on the date placement, it matches August 2014

So now we can actually calculate whether Ao could realistically appear in this manga

In Hachigatsu, Kokkuri-san calls Ao “senpai,” which places him at least as a second year student, so around 16–17 years old in 2014

Now, in Chapter 28, I previously explained that this manga takes place in the year 2000. However, we also see a calendar in this manga and it is a match to August 1999 instead of 2000 (I know it's August because it's summer break). That would make Ao only about 1–2 years old during these events

If it’s not Ao, then who is it?

This is where the lore gets heavy. In Hachigatsu Ch. 41, Samejima tells Ao

The story of how we first met, long before you were born

And that line creates a major issue

The Urban Legend "Samejima Incident" didn't start circulating online until 2000–2001. But Ao was already born at that point, so Samejima is just straight up lying

My alternative hypothesis: what if the kid we see here is actually Shin’s first reincarnation?

Basically, Shin met the villagers before Ao was born while searching for the woman from his dreams (Miyako). The situation stalled for years because Miyako was never among them. Then, as urban legends began spreading in the early 2000s, Shijin came to the villagers with records of those stories, and that’s when they all shifted into the supernatural stories we know

What really bugs me is the kid in this chapter is never mentioned again. Was he just a plot device to push the townspeople into hunting Arata?

Or is there a deeper connection and it actually is Ao?
