I agree with that, but the issue is that it's been a month and some days and now they're off to defeat the demon lawd. You can do quite a bit in a month, don't get me wrong, but now instead of three minutes he'll survive three and a half minutes.

I wasn't talking about learning advanced sword techniques; just learning a bit of theory is already better than nothing. He doesn't know how to swing his sword properly, he doesn't know how to parry, and he doesn't know any footwork.
Even as someone physically unfit, it's better to have some bases than to have none. It's not like they couldn't get one hour of theory in before physical exercise. It's just like how when you're learning martial arts you don't just get fit, you get theory and practice as well, because knowing how to move your body and use what you have is just as important as being fit. In my dojo there was an old 4th dan judoka who absolutely wiped the floor with most people, and it wasn't due to physical fitness alone, it was due to technique. In the end, both are important, and this story entirely neglected skills.
