So instead of going with the "Princess is secretly evil" plotline that was set up with the marketing child gimmick they decided to just say the king was scared his daughter would be good at her job as queen and thus needs to die so a prince who is bad at his job will destroy his own kingdom. What the fuck kind of reasoning is that.

I mean, the Kingdom fell into doom when the Prince was the ruler (in the destroyed timeline), so everyone in the future would only remember that, the previous King was the better King, and people would remember his name.

Its all about the concept of how someone tries to stay famous even after their death.

I'll chalk this up to the king being a narcissist and wanting a lasting legacy as he still had the mental acuity to recognize the qualities of his children and know what levers pull to get a loyal knight to turn so completely. In hindsight, Kail being the one to do this makes sense as he can't trust anyone else to do this, not without a lot of uncomfortable questions being asked.
