I think Goldar planned to die here and he also drank a nondiluited drug that would most likely killed him! Not killing Zeltos would be more difficult, since he doesn't know him and was loyal to a corrupted king, which he probably knew! So far a knight it was a do or die type of situation! But also the pace of the manga doesn’t allow, or shown MC's insecurities about his actions, since we seen how his past and the current "present" are different then what he thought! In the past he was reacting to an already done situation! Now he needs to think how to avoid all of it...and imo he's not very good at thinking
