Phillip V only had daughters so then the throne passed to his younger brother Charles IV who also only had daughters. The throne was then passed to the nephew of Phillip IV, thus crowning Phillip VI

the one who contracted the assassin was probably king remonas the first time https://mangadex.org/chapter/15338/10 so kail probably did stop the first assassination on eldrand (likely minagi) https://mangadex.org/chapter/15318/18 , kail just had no idea someone else would send another assassin

what else should kail do though? if kail truly pisses off the a prince Kail wouldn't seem like a very reliable ally to the prince (and may be offed)

I would understand if he "reluctantly" agreed for the sake of his goals, with some inner monologue showing how pissed off he actually is about the methods the prince so nonchalantly told him he would use to control him. But no, not even that we get. Instead, MC just kind of shrugs it off as if saying "seriously, this guy never changes huh, always doing things his own way, hahaha". Like, c'mon dude, he just told you to your face he was willing to kidnap your family to make you obey him one way or another. Show some fucking reaction.
