Wasn't the kung fu mma thing reveal the kung fu guy to be a scam artist or at least he sniff his own farts too much ? I get for this manga to work kung fu have to be a martial arts that is usable in real fights but in real life aren't kung fu just fancy exercise form ? It's not muay thai

What i remember of that story is that the MMA guy completely owned the kung fu artist, the MMA fighter MAY have been threatened or bribed to lose before the fight but he refused, and it became a big scandal because we all know how desperate China is to protect their image and pretend to have a culture, and martial arts being made to look bad was something they didnt like. So the MMA fighter became a persona nongrata and was (and may still be to this day) harrassed by the police, the public and the government along with his family. Its been a long time since i heard the story and thats all i remember.

Wait, so the guy who beat the kung-fu artist was also chinese?... I really don't see the issue then? China is such a strange place.

Honestly I don't get her argument. She's saying Kung Fu isn't made for the ring or entertainment so what is it for? To slay the enemy? Like what practical use is there for Kung Fu? Not trying to diss the art itself, I respect it and the long culture, but in the age of MMA it has been shown to be obsolete.

Also kinda a diss towards Karate since it is a lot more practical than Kung Fu. Full body karate can be pretty brutal.

All in all a really weird plot element to throw into this fantasy martial art about a boy who did Tai Chi and can destroy people's balls.

I can’t tell if the entire joke of this chapter was to point out the fact that this incredibly unself-aware b*tch is fucking crazy or if the author is actually playing it straight and is legitimately trying to d*ck ride obsolete Chinese martial arts.

Literally the only Chinese martial arts I can think of that isn’t absolute nonsense is Sanda. Painting Xu Xiaodong as the freaking bad guy just feels aggravatingly insensitive. What kind of person thinks a storyline like this is actually a good idea?

Yeah I don't think the mma fighter was in the wrong for beating masters who's egos were too high. Even with the bullshit the government has thrown his way as a result, I hope he's doing relatively well.
